From the Presidents pen

As the 2009 AGM rapidly approaches I have taken time to reflect on what an incredible and eventful year CBAV has experienced.

For Victoria the year started in the worst possible way with the February black Saturday fires claiming 170 + lives however the undeniable link between townships and there community radio stations proved once again the enormous advantage of on the spot announcers with local knowledge.

It is regrettable that the lengthy submissions to the bush fire royal commission by the CBAA, CBAV, and SCMA have been overlooked in favor of an agreement with the multinational, network driven commercial stations, well we will see how well they handle the 2009/2010 bushfire session

CBAV budgeted for 3 workshops in 2009 and started with a one day event at Colac hosted by 3 OCR. Addam Stubbs an accredited CBAA trainer presented 2 very lively and interactive forums covering codes of practice in the morning and station practices after a well prepared and enjoyable lunch. About 35 delegates from 7 different community stations through out western Victoria attended.

The CBAV committee had initially planning for the second workshop to be a repeat of the Colac event at an eastern Gippsland venue, however the opportunity arose for CBAV to host Technorama, the first national conference of technicians and engineers since the formation of CBAA. For the committee of CBAV, the months preceding the conference was a very busy time being responsible for selection of the venue, providing accommodation for visiting speakers, arranging all the catering for the 3 day event, and promoting the conference to all Victorian stations. May I express my personal thanks to each and every member of the committee for the wonderful job you all did.

The 3rd and final workshop for 2009 will be held in conjunction with the AGM on November the 15th at the Balwyn Community Centre Whitehorse Rd Balwyn. This workshop has been designed to cater primarily for the metros stations with the keynote speaker Mr. Graeme Redmond from digital radio supplier “Pure” will talk on the uptake of digital broadcasting in Australia, however all are welcome to attend and the sub metro stations, that continue to transmit on the FM band. will be interested a potential shift in listener preferences as digital rolls out.

ReUseIt Network

Our goal is to find new uses for unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. The primary benefit is that it reduces the amount of reusable items that end up in the trash with a secondary benefit of reducing the overall amount of items thrown into landfills.
